ORIGIN OF SETTLERS OF CATAN
In a fast paced world of advanced technology, where change has become the constant, there is no time left to unwind and let yourself free from the ties of erratic work hours and the need to achieve. You might be quite successful in planning for a retreat to an immaculate island with an alluring countryside, but might be failing to execute the plan because something or the other always crops up and ruins your fantasies. But you need not worry; there is a solution to each and every complication in this world. Here is a game started by Klaus Teuber called ‘The Settlers of Catan’ that teleports you in the zone of a pristine island, thereby rewarding your discontented fantasies. It offers you real-life experience of being on an island and an opportunity to rule the massive island. The Settlers of Catan is a family board game preferably played with minimum 2 and maximum 6 players. It was first published in 1995 in Germany by Franckh-Kosmos Verlag (Kosmos) under the name Die Siedler von Catan.
The object of the game is to be a dominant group or the ruler of Catan. Each player represents a group of settlers landed on the remote island. The island is represented by the game board composing of hexagonal tiles (hexes) of different land types that are laid out at the beginning of the game. To be a ruler or a dominant player on the island, one has to achieve Victory Points. Victory Points can be achieved by building settlements and cities, or by longest road or army or by purchasing certain cards on the island .Building requires resources (brick, lumber, wool, grain, and ore) which are represented by the resource cards. Each settlement or city receives resources based on the nearby terrain.
