REVIEW OF VIRTUAL GAME - LEFT FOR DEAD - PART 2
The only first person shooter that kicks the living day light (quite literally) out of the dead, is ‘Left 4Dead- part2.’ This one is a brand new addition to the already famous,’ Left 4 Dead (L4D) series and this new installment does pack a lethal punch. In a way, it complements the previous game with addition of plethora of features, to play around with!
If killing zombies, or as they call; ‘the undead,’ is your style of spending a quality time way past dinner time, then this game is suitably apt for you. In L4D-2 the mission is to take down everything that moves and crawls using anything that seems lethal enough. Just try to keep your head up and watch out for, above your shoulder, because there you can never be sure as to what is lurking on top of your head. A gun, baseball bats, shovels anything at all, can be used as some sort of weapons to wipe out the zombies off of your path. As long as you are sure you can manage to take them down without any worries, the degraded city and all the objects that are lying around is ‘yours only’ to use. But a warning as to what may be chosen because it can directly affect the game playing scene, and before you know it, one wrong decision and 8 or 10 blood thirsty zombies are feasting on you. “You don’t want that to happen, now do you?’
The plot of the game is simple enough; ‘hack and slash your way forward’. A small introductory video follows in the very beginning of the game. For those who haven’t played the first part, this video is specially meant for them. No second guessing is required, after watching the video, ‘that you are in deep trouble (in the game) already. The game is set in the southeastern part of America and the entire town is infested with zombies. The undead kind! To tackle the menace the government is on a evacuation and destroy mode. As, almost the entire city is grappled with such creatures, and not a single normal human in sight the government has decided to wipe it all out with use of caustic force. Within this chaos, there are just four, sole survivors. During the single player mode, you play as Ellis. He is one guy among the four with a really weird sense of speech. While when you are busy gunning down enemies, he continues his inane conversation with the other three, mostly about telling stories that will make you roll with sudden laughter. Those are hilarious. Apart from this the game is dead (no pun intended) serious.
There are five landscapes that players can choose to start off the campaign. All these five different locations set out in different parts of the southeast are an integral part of the main story. Whether you choose to hunt down hoards of zombies in ‘creepy carnival’ or out in the swamps, one plot directly leads you towards another. There are various clues distributed throughout as you make progress. These indicators help in directing towards ‘where to head next, and with least amount of thinking you will instantly recognize your next move. The detailed environments help compose the story on their own. Remains of the city buildings, rusting gates, and hinging doors are all portrayed very well, and when you get an eerie sense of the destruction that was followed. That is when you instantly recognize about the government’s evil wipe out plans. The aural immersion is pretty striking and also manages to keep you on a constant alert. Scary sounds that make appears like some is in deep throbbing pain are, most of the time are really hard to ignore. Surely, the sounds that are composed as background are in fact pseudo in nature. Although you get to hear it, no matter how hard you squint you are never able to spot a single entity that can be the source to such sounds. This is the ‘Make believe part of Left 4 dead 2.
There are also multiplayer modes that can be played. Since Valve, the guys behind the Epic Half-Life series, has developed this game. They seem to have put together all their ‘multiplayer game making,’ expertise in this game. Without any glitch the multiplayer modes are as fun, or for others even greater, as the single player campaigns. Single or multiplayer game modes, both rely heavily on communication. So if you are one of those who prefer a silent kill, rather than a collaborative take down, stay far off from this game.
Left 4 Dead 2 is intensive on the blood & gore philosophy, which is put to use in most of the games today. The detailed graphics rendered in the game is a testament that stands up to this philosophy. So before anything else, you might want to consider playing the game after dark, that too all of alone! “May the Geforce be with you.”
