CHECKERS RULES
The game of checkers is played on a game board that contains squares that are typically arranged in eight rows and eight columns. There are usually tow colors for the squares, that is, red and black. There are two players who get 12 playing pieces to compete with each other.
The game is played on black squares only. In the online version of the game, the players are given the options to select the color for the first move. In most cases, the game begins with the red color. Once the first move has been made, the two players take turns to make the moves.
In the beginning of the game, the pieces of the game are allowed to move only in the front direction. The players can move one square at a time. The moves that the players make can be categorized as the capturing moves and the non capturing moves. The moves made in the straight direction are called the non capturing moves while the moves that are made diagonally to the connecting square are termed as the capturing moves. The players are also allowed to jump over the pieces of the opponents. Such moves are also termed as the capturing moves. In such moves, the pieces of the opponent are removed from the game board. Or it can be said that the capturing moves usually take place when the players make a piece jump over the piece of the opponent in such a manner that the square behind the at-risk square is also empty.
The main idea of the entire game is to move the pieces in such a manner that the pieces of the opponents are forced to make moves that block the pieces of the opponents. In other words, the players use various strategies to take all the pieces of the opponent or force the opponent to make moves that do not allow him or her to maneuver the pieces of the game in a desired manner.
As mentioned earlier, the pieces can only move forward in the initial phase of the game. Once the pieces reach the other end of the board, they are topped with another checker of the same color. This topping of the checker means that the piece has become a king and is now allowed to make moves in forward as well as backward direction.
