BATTLESHIP RULES
A navy game that offers immense excitement while the player drowns the opponents hidden ships. Each player has an ocean, in form of the board which is unseen by the opponents. There are a number of grids on the board representing the ocean that is meant to have ships placed on it. Each player has to set his or her ships in position. There are fleet of five ships each. Sinking each other’s ship is the main motive of the game. Facing each other the two players call their shots in an effort to hit the other persons ship. Both luck and technique matter equally in the game. White pegs and red pegs have storage next to the board while the five ships are placed on the board. These five ships are known as Carriers, Battleship, Cruiser, Submarine and Destroyer.
The game begins with each player secretly positioning his ships. These ships are prohibited from placing diagonally. Horizontal and vertical are the only two options a player has. The horizontal line on the top of the board has numbers from one to ten. On the vertical left side of the board are alphabets from A to J. One is not allowed to change the positions of the ships once the game has begun.
The player calls out a letter and a number combining the two and reaching a position where the ship might or might not be placed. The opponent’s ship is drowned if the position is accurate. This is a ‘hit’ and the opponent has to reveal which type of ship was hit. The player on his grid will use the white peg and red peg to mark the ‘hit’ or ‘miss’. This is to help him later in the game, which comes across as strategy. It is then another players chance to guess. This guessing game continues as the players drown each others ship and mark their hits and misses.
However each ship has its importance. Hitting the ship once does not sink any ship. Carrier, which is the most important ship, has to be hit five times. Battleship has to be hit four times and Cruiser and submarine three times each. The destroyer however can be sunk by two hits. The winner is clear. Sinking all your opponents ship will lead you to victory. Therefore it can be a fun game if the players do not cheat and are honest about their ship placements.
